About PicoSure Pigment Body (8″ x 8″) Packages
PicoSure® laser treatments are safe and effective at removing pigmented lesions from the body. The laser works by causing microscopic photomechanical reactions in the epidermis and dermis. The laser will create an intense photothermal impact in just a few trillionths of a second. This will allow for quicker clearance and fewer treatments.
Frequently asked questions
What causes unwanted pigment?
Melanin gives us our skin color. Pigmented lesions including sunspots, age spots, and brown patches, are dark in color because the melanin is concentrated in one area of the skin. Most pigmented lesions come from sun exposure while some patients are born with them. Hormonal changes can also induce pigment changes in the skin.
How is Picosure Safe For ALL SKIN TYPES?
The PicoSure, much like any other laser, will hit the first target it sees. Based on the patient’s skin type the Pico can be set to target darker pigment. Unlikely a normal laser or IPL; PicoSure is “blind” and capable of treating any of the six Fitzpatrick skin types (1-6). This is because a typical laser is photothermal and in darker skin types the heat present from the laser may lead to hyper or hypopigmentation. The PicoSure is photoacoustic and thus we aren’t as concerned about hyper or hypopigmentation because there is far less heat in the skin during the treatment. Furthermore, the PicoSure’s 755nm wavelength has an incredible blood-to-melanin absorption ratio which means it is capable of destroying more pigmented lesions in a single treatment.
What does the Picosure treatment feel like?
Most patients find the procedure tolerable and require no numbing cream or anesthesia. PicoSure delivers energy in ultra-short bursts, and patients often compare the laser pulse to a snap of a thin rubber band.
